Sanctuaire Sauvage

Collectif Rafale [Belgium]

Rain has a way of bringing out the contours of everything; it throws a coloured blanket over previously invisible things; instead of an intermittent and thus fragmented world, the steadily falling rain creates a continuity of an acoustic experience. - John Hull, becoming blind at the age of 45 -

Sanctuaire Sauvage is a live performance project that uses the artists’ bodies to create a singular acoustic universe.

Our approach is centered around the state of blindness and is freely inspired by the lives and stories of the blind. We’re aiming to highlight “new” ways of experiencing the world opened up by the loss of sight.

It all started with two sisters. The father could never see either of them. The daughters wanted to share their dad’s way of feeling.

The idea is to offer another approach of live performance by moving away from the visual aspect to develop other ways of experiencing circus, thereby creating a piece that can be appreciated by every person in the room, whether they can see or not.

We want to offer our audience a sensory experiment that will transport them elsewhere by favoring their perception of realities other than the ones they’re accustomed to.

Collectif Rafale

Created in 2017, Collectif Rafale is the outcome of 4 artists’ desire to band together in order to confront their artistic language & create original live shows.

Following various encounters – the creation of Circus Acts, a participation in artistic labs, … – Collectif Rafale decided to create a new kind of structure, one that would reflect their current project, through the conception of the show Sanctuaire Sauvage.

The core idea is the search for a common scenic language, a result of the confrontation of their circus techniques & respective creative universes : a juggler, a duo of acrobatic lifters and a set designer.
